Fuel for diesel engines
Diesel (Automative Gas Oil - AGO) is fuel used in any diesel engine (compression ignition). Cetane index, sulfur content, cloud point, water content etc etc are some of the defining properties for quality. We usually call it 5.50 or 500 ppm diesel signifying the weight ratio sulfur content. The diesel sold in the Eritrean market is petroleum based; it is product of crude oil refining. The other types of diesel oil is bio diesel which is made from plant and set to conform with the main characteristics.
The critical parameters set out by the Eritrean Petroleum Corporation (EPC) for diesel sold in Eritrea are as below:
- AGO must have a densiy @ 20 degrees centigrade in Kg/m3 of between 820-870
- Have Cetane index of 48 minimum and Sulphur content of 0.05% maximum
